Bistek (Filipino Beefsteak)
Beef slices marinated in calamansi (lemon) and soy, with onion and rice
Directions
Slice meat into slices
Start by cutting meat into slices and put into a container
Squeeze calamansi/lemon
Now you want to squeeze out the juice of the calamansi (preferred), can be substituted by a lemon. Then add soy sauce and grounded pepper, you now have marinade
Mix marinade with beef
Add the marinade into the container with beef, then put in fridge for at least one hour and for best result, leave overnight
Cut onion into slices (rings)
Cut onions into slices, put aside half doe later
Fry half of the onions
After you have heated a fryingpan with oil, fry half the onions until soft. Set aside
Drain marinade
Now you want to drain the marinade from the beef and set it aside
Fry beef
Fry the beef in the pan used for onions, about 1 minute per side and then set aside
Saute garlic and onion
Now saute the garlic and remaining raw onion, until onion becomes soft
Add marinade and water
Now you add the marinade and water to the pan with onion and garlic, then bring to a boil
Add beef and cover
After adding the beef, cover with lid and let simmer until beef becomes tender. Add water as needed
Top with pan fried onions
Season to taste with salt and pepper, then add the pan fried onions on top from earlier
