Where's my link preview Facebook?
Ever shared a link, but then suddenly there's no preview? It might not just be a bug..
Expexted behavior
When you share a link in Messenger, Instagram, Twitter and other social media, you expect there to be an preview of what you send
Reality
Then suddenly you get no preview and to make it even more confusing, it sometimes work
Why does it work with for some and other it doesn't? Is a bug or is there a reason behind it?
Reason
Believe it or not, it's not a bug and actually a feature. More precisely a safety mechanism for Facebook to not be sued by European Union (EU) for breach on GDPR
It's not the preview itself that's the issue, but the tracking it might contain and concent the user needs to agree to before seeing it. Not to mention what tracking Facebook themselves have there, which they're not disclosing
Therefore, link preview are not available to users residing in EU or chats containing people residing in EU
