Terro Ant Killer: Review

Terro Ant Killer: Review

Does Terro Ant Killer kill the colony or is it a waste of money?

Ant colony are underground or inside walls, where it can be hard to spray or put poison directly. That's where Terro Ant Killer comes into play

Placing the bait

The first thing you want to do, is inspect your home and where the ant trails go. There can be more than just one colony

Remember this is poison, so keep it out of reach from where kids and pets might consume it

After you have scouted the ant trails, you can start putting a few drops of poison along the trails. Terro recommend putting a few drops on a piece of cardboard, but I've just been putting it straight

How it works

Terro Ant Killer is designed so that the worker ants will eat the bait, bring it back to the colony and there the colony will eat the bait, then bring it around the nest

For the worker ants to be able to bring the poison back to the colony, the poison needs to be slow working. If the poison directly killed the ants, they wouldn't be able to bring it back to the nest. So it can take a couple of weeks to completely kill a colony

Re-applying bait

Already on the second day, I could start seeing an decrease in ants. As I have multiple colonies and the previous tenants doesn't seem to have done much to deal with the ants. I have had to re-apply the poison bate quite frequently along the trail, for multiple days. To ensure the entire colony get fed the poison bait

Avoid bug spray

While using the poison bait, refrain from using most other bug repellants and especially bug spray

Reason for this, is to not contaminate the bait you have been placing. Bug spray will kill the ants you can see and also contaminate the bait, so new ants might not want to touch the bait anymore

Meaning you've both killed of the ants carrying the bait back to the colony and most likely ruined the poison bait, so new ants won't touch it

Verdict

After using Terro Ant Killer for a few weeks, we can conclude it helps reduce the number of ants. Unfortunately if you are dealing with bigger colonies, you'll need to frequently re-apply the poison bait or you'll not manage to get the entire colony

You won't see instant result, Terro themselves says it can take a couple of weeks to kill the entire colony. As the poison works slowly, to allow the worker ants time to bring the poison back to the nest and allow for it to be spread around the nest

Our verdict: Consider your options
