Replace front tire Mi Electric Scooter (all models)

Replace front tire Mi Electric Scooter (all models)

Let's take a look on how you can change the front tire for your Mi Electric Scooter

Front tire change on the Mi Electric Scooter is pretty straight forward, but can be difficult. It's recommended to have someone to assist you, but we'll look at a way to do it alone

The guide will assume you've already removed the wheel from the eScooter. We've guides on how to remove the wheel for Mi Electric Scooter (all models)

If you decided not to remove the motor, you need to be extra careful with the motor wire and this process will be more difficult

Models covered:
- Mi Electric Scooter (all models)

Difficulty: Medium-Hard
Time: 15-30min

Tools needed

For this job, you'll need some tools

Tools:
- 2 x Tire level (preferably metal)
- New tire / tire tube

Some prefer to use lube / grease as well, but this instruction will be without the use of it

Remove air from tire

First thing you want to do, is to remove as much air as possible from the tube. Here you can use a hex or other tool, that you can push the tire pin down with

The more air you get out, the easier it will be to remove the tire

Removing valve lock

Many people struggle with removing the front tire, because they didn't remove the front motor and the valve lock

Even if you don't remove the front motor, you can still push slight on the valve lock to release the valve and make it easier

Removing tire

Now you'll get the tire level and insert it between the rim and tire. You insert first one and then about 10cm further on the tire, you'll insert one more. Then you'll slowly work around the tire, until you've gotten it off the rim

Half the tire of the rim is enough, if you'll only change tube. All need to come off if you're changing tire

Removing tube

Here we'll be changing both tire and tube

Here we can see there's quite some damage inside the tire and this could easily puncture any new tube you might put inside it

Now I can pull out the tube and insert a new tube. Remember to remove the lid for the valve and tire lock

Inserting new tube

After inserting the new tube, make sure the valve is aligned with the wheel hole for the valve or you might end up having to remove the tire again (you don't want to do that

I recommend putting the valve through the valve whole in the wheel now and put the tire cap on. Then it will stay in place, while you put the tire on

Getting tire back on the rim

This is the most difficult part and this is where I recommend to be two people

If you look at the wheel, you'll see it's curved inwards. So what you want to do, is get part of the tire onto the wheel. Then squeeze it together from the side, so it goes into the curve. As this will give you extra space to work with on the other side on the tire and every mm helps

As I replaced the tire alone, I used my feet to squeeze the tire at the bottom or you could have someone help you squeeze the tire or use clamps, just make sure they don't have sharp edges that can eat into the tire

Work your way around the tire

Now that you've gotten the tire partially on, you use use the tire level to gradually work your way around the tire. Until you've gotten it completely on

I'll keep rotating the tire as we go along, so I can squeeze it with my feet into the curve and ensure it stays in the curve

Make sure to refill the air

Now that the tire is back on, you need to ensure the air is filled up

Air pressure will depend on your weight, climate, model and if it's front or rear tire. Please reference your manual or local seller for recommended air pressure
