Epic Games Vs Apple: Court ruling is out

Neither Apple or Epic Games seems to be to happy with the outcome, more lawsuits seems to be on their way

Apple threw out Epic's Fortnite game last year from the App-Store, because of breach of Apple's rules regarding all transactions needs to go through the App-store. Not allowed to send users to payment systems outside of the App-store, which Epic Games did

In a counter to this, Epic sued Apple

Court ruling [↗] says that Apple is not allowed to deny developers to link to their own payment system outside of the App-store

Apple will still be allowed to charge 30% fee for transaction through the App-store payment system, but can't charge if you choose your own solution outside of it

Today’s ruling isn't a win for developers or for consumers. Epic is fighting for fair competition among in-app payment methods and app stores for a billion consumers.

Epic Games will also need to pay Apple 30% of all money earned from sales to Apple users, while the Fortnite game was still listed in the App-store. As Epic choose to breach the terms they themselves had agreed to, when getting listed in the App-store in the first place

Now that you soon can do payments outside of App-store, based on the court ruling. Does that mean Fortnite will soon be back in the App-store? Sweeney had follow to say about that

Fortnite will return to the iOS App Store when and where Epic can offer in-app payment in fair competition with Apple in-app payment, passing along the savings to consumers.
