Windows 10 have gotten an retirement date

Microsoft have announced the retirement date for Windows 10 and it might be sooner than you thought

Microsoft have updated their lifecycle dates on Microsoft.com [↗] and now they've an retirement date for Windows 10. On 14th of October 2025, Windows 10 (Home, Pro, Pro Education and Pro for Workstations) will be retired. Retired means they'll no longer receive any updates. Until the retirement date, Microsoft have stated "Microsoft will continue to support at least one Windows 10 Semi-Annual Channel until October 14, 2025"

"This is more than a one-time upgrade: once a Windows device is upgraded to Windows 10, we will continue to keep it current for the supported lifetime of the device – at no cost. With Windows 10, the experience will evolve and get even better over time. We’ll deliver new features when they’re ready, not waiting for the next major release. We think of Windows as a Service – in fact, one could reasonably think of Windows in the next couple of years as one of the largest Internet services on the planet", by Terry Myerson, Microsoft on 21st January 2015

But wait, I hear you say. "Wasn't Windows 10 supposed to be the last Windows version...". That's what most people thought, but recently Microsoft have been hinting at changes coming for Windows

Microsoft have called in for a press conference on June 24th [↗] and many is expecting announcement of the next Windows version then. Speculation is going that next Windows will be Windows 11, considering the image for the event contains what can resemble 11 from the light shining to the floor from the Window. As the light shines through the Window and two lines are seen, not four boxes

If the next Windows version will just be an free upgrade or if you need to purchase a new version, as you've done in the past, only time can tell
