Start by removing the five unbrako screws from the back and the back lid should easily lift off

Now switch to the screwdriver and remove the four screws holding the joysticks board down

Gently remove the battery, pry slight if needed

Now you can unplug the ribbon cable for the joysticks, if you want to make it easier. We'll not unplug it

Now you can unscrew the four screws in the middle frame

Note that these four screws are all longer screws, than the others in this controller

You can now lift up the motherboard from the bottom (USB-C is top). Once you have it slight up, you can take it out

Now you can see the five membranes covering the top cover buttons and if you pay attention, you also notice that most only fit one way

Membranes are used to tell the motherboard that you actually pressed the button

Underneath the membranes, you'll find the actual buttons. Except for start and select (+ and -) buttons, as they're part of the membrane

Be careful not to drop the buttons, as some of these can be quite small (why one is missing, had to fish it out of the food trash. After I realized it had gone missing during cleaning)

The joysticks can just be lifted straight up to be removed, in case you want to replace them as they get worn down or just clean them

There are also four membranes for the shoulders buttons, but it's the L2 and R2 membranes that are most likely to fall out during repair / cleaning. As the L1 and R1 are pretty securely fastened
