20 minutes of never seen Super Mario Bros. movie footage released
The Super Mario Bros. Movie was released in 1993 to not the best reviews and since gotten cult following. It was made by Rocky Morton and Annabel Jankel’s Super Mario Bros.
The movie was initially set to be more adult themed, as you can see from the newly released footage and the dark theme of the movie released, compared to what you see in the Mario video games
As Disney purchased the distribution rights to the movies a few weeks before shooting started. Disney came in and wanted the movie more kid friendly, which went against the vision of the directors
Morten-Jankel
Now a fan compiled version by Garrett Gilchrist, dubbed "Morten-Jankel" cut have been released, containing 20 minutes of footage never released before. Found on a VHS copy of the movie, previously owned by Roland Joffé and believed to be the only copy ever made. The new material is rough cutThe movie stars Bob Hoskins (Who Framed Roger Rabbit) and John Leguizamo, who plays Mario and Luigi respectedly. The live action movie is also the first time we get to learn of the Mario Bros. last name... Mario. Meaning Mario's full name is Mario Mario if you go by the movie
The movie is released on Archive.org [↗] and knowing Nintendo and how they're with taking down their property. I recommend watching it sooner, rather than later or it might not be easily available anymore
