Movie VS Video Games
Resident Evil (Biohazard in Japan, where it originated from), is first and foremost a video game franchise. Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City is not the first live action adoption of the franchise, but it feels like the most fatefulYou get the story arc from the first movie, where they enter Spencer Mansion looking for Bravo team and get to experience a lot of what happened in the video game. They even included the piano puzzle scene from the video game (even if Albert Wesker cheated a bit)
Parallel you have the story arc from the second game, with Leon and Claire in Racoon city. Going through the RPD, the truck coming crashing in
There's also lots of easter eggs for fans of the video game franchise, that can be spotted through out the movie
Verdict
It's refreshing to see a new fairly faithful take on this famous video game series. Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City stays close to the video games source, but at the same time makes some necessary adjustments to allow for good pacing and tying the first two games into one movieThis movie have more focus on suspense, than straight out action and it suits the story well. Even if you're not familiar with the Resident Evil games, you'll still enjoy the movie
