Sony is making it a bit easier for US address holders to get a PS5

Have you had a hard time finding a PlayStation 5 that's not overpriced by scalpers? Then Sony might have a solution

PlayStation have launched a Register to buy [↗] campaign in the US, to try to make it easier for everyone to get a PlayStation 5

Just because you register, doesn't mean you'll be accepted. To register, PlayStation requires you to sign in with a PSN (PlayStation Network Account) and "Our selection is based on previous interests and PlayStation activities", PlayStation says. This might sound scary, but my impression here is this is a way for the to try to avoid scalpers. As they limit one PlayStation 5 per PSN account, so if scalpers would create new accounts with zero history and activity on them, they will be automatically voided

Selected?

After signing up, PlayStation will start sending out e-mails starting November 2021 to the ones selected. If you don't receive an e-mail, you weren't selected

If you get selected, PlayStation will provide you with a limited time window you can buy a console. You will be able to buy one console (either digital or with disk) and limited amount of accessories. Buying additional accessories, such controllers are optional

You can still participate if you live outside United States, but PlayStation will only send to US addresses
