Is it worth upgrading to Nintendo Switch V2?

If you already have the first revision of Nintendo Switch and have seen Nintendo have made a revision to the Nintendo Switch. You might wonder if it's worth upgrading

Short answer: It depends on your usage

I personally only use docked mode and don't notice any changes for this usage. So for docker mode usage only, I don't feel the upgrade is worth it

My kids on the other hand, use handheld mode a lot and they now can use the Nintendo Switch all day without charging. Where on the first revision, we had to charge after a few hours of usage

Battery life

Nintendo Switch V1: 2.5 to 6.5 hours
Nintendo Switch V2: 4.5 to 9 hours

Exact battery life will depend on what game you're playing and brightness

The screen is also slight brighter in the new Nintendo Switch V2, but you won't notice the difference unless you compare side by side

Spot the new model

You can spot the new revision, by the red background on the box. Where the first revision had a white box. You can also see under the box and there will be a small window where you can see the Switch systems serial number. If the serial number starts with "XKW", it's the new revision

On the back of the Switch itself, the new revision will have model number HAC-001(-01), where the first revision have model number HAC-001

Summary

If you only use docked mode and the Switch is still in good condition, there's not really any reason to upgrade as you won't notice any significant difference

If you mainly use handheld and find the battery lasting short or your Switch is starting to be tired, an upgrade can be worth it
